I have just discovered that my feelings for an actor's character in one show can influence how I feel about them in another show. It was kind of wierd how this came about. I flipped on the TV and Bones was on. When I saw it was one of the ones where Sully was Bones' partner b/c Booth was unashamedly begging Gordon Gordon to let him to sign off on his sanity. And when the episodes were on, I HATED, HATED, HATED the Sully character. I think I had some sort of notion that liking him was tatamount to breaking up B&B. Sacrilege!
Anyhow, long story short, he comes on screen and I didn't immediately recognize the actor. Then, that jerk Sully started speaking and I about shot the water I was drinking out of my nose because I DID recognize the voice immediately, and I KNEW it was the voice of a character I liked. And because I couldn't immediately place the likeable character, I found myself giving Sully a second chance while I listened to his voice to try and place him in likeable-ville.
Then I realized he belongs in Univille. It was Pete! Pete Latimer, from Warehouse 13, a character I adore! along with his co-characters Artie, Myka, and Claudia.
But because of my feelings for Pete, Sully got another chance. Granted, Mr. Gary-Stu Sully is still not one of my favorite characters (Degrees in everything from Carpentry to Kinestheology to Art? Licensed in Emergency Medicine and Profiling and half a dozen other things? Come on, there has to be something he sucks at!), but he's no longer on the "see him, change the channel" list. And it's ALL Pete's fault!

Date a Girl Who Prays
I wrote this a while back (before I started this blog), and refound it on my computer today. After I read it, I decided that this deserved to be shared.

Date a girl who prays. If you find a woman who prays, you will have found a gem among women. You probably won't be able to tell who she is until you know her well.
Sure, you might hear her muttering a prayer under her breath. But many people mutter things under their breath. Some of them even mutter "Lord, help me" pleas without believing that there is a God who can and will help them.
If you go to church, You'll no doubt see many women bowing their heads. Some of them are doing it just for conformity's sake. They go to church because they have always gone, or because their parents make them, or because it's an opportunity to wear their new dress. But looking at the congregation, you can't tell who is who. You can't tell whose heart is beating fast in their chest at the knowledge of the presence of a Holy God, and whose heart is beating fast at the thought that other eyes may be upon them.
But if you meet a girl who is gentle and kind, and one winter day you find her playing made-up tunes on the piano as she pours out her heart to an empty practice room, you might just have found a girl who prays. If you get to know a girl who is compassionate and honest, and one summer day you find her in a field, murmuring praises to the Creator, you might just have found a girl who prays. And if you spend time with a girl and she asks you to pray for her, chances are, she prays for you too.
You should really try to get to know her better.
Because that girl who prays-- she'll always be growing. She'll be the one who takes the time to discover her faults, try to correct them, and pray to God for the strength to do so. She'll be the one who prays for compassion and mercy to fill her heart to overflowing when she notices the faults of others; the one who prays for the grace of Christ to make her see their goodness instead. She'll be the one who sees sin in the world, and prays that God forgive those who sin without ever meeting them.
Her closeness to her Heavenly Father may lead her to do things you consider strange, like spending hours at a time seemingly doing nothing. She'll just sit. And think. And pray. She may get tears in her eyes as she watches the news, or traces her fingers over a map. That doesn't mean she's weak. It means she has the strength to admit she can't do it on her own, and the wisdom to ask for help.
It means she will give all she has, and more, to help you reach your fullest potential. She will be your closest partner and best support. And when you face the trials of your life and the battles for your soul, she will uphold you in prayer.
If you love a girl who prays, you'll love a girl who not only dreams the that the world can be a better place, she has will to strive to make it so and the audacity to ask for the thunderous help of the God and Commander of the Hosts of Heaven, the very Creator of the universe itself.
And with that kind of backing, who could fail at anything?
