When I See the Children

I laugh to see the children,
Joy personified.
Always playing, having fun,
They’re asking me for a ride.

I weep to see the children,
Lonely and abused.
Neglected and rejected,
They don’t even make the news.

I smile to see the children,
Doing their very best.
They recite, perform, and sing,
And I know that I am blest.

I rage to see the children,
Starving, sick, and poor.
I want to fill their tummies,
Give them toys and clothes and more.

I love to see the children,
Wherever they may be--
For in each one I see God,
And my heart swells to bursting.
