It's Not Okay

It isn't really okay
And we shouldn't say it is
But day after day
People still say
"It's okay."

We cheapen the words
And we condone the harm
When we use those two little words
And I'm starting to wonder
If it isn't our fault
That rudeness and spite
Only escalate

It'd be better if we said,
"I forgive you."
That would condemn the wrong
That would at least send the message
That it's NOT okay
To lie, or to borrow without asking,
Or to cheat, or to call names,
Or to bite or to hit or to be disrespectful,
Or to do a thousand things
That we let kids get away with
All because we're willing to say,
"It's okay."

It's not okay.
Not even if you say,
"I'm sorry."
That doesn't take away
The wrongness of your actions.

That's why it's not okay
To say, "It's okay."
