What I like to do
What my dreams are
What my goals for my life are
That I even convinced myself
That it really is my life.
I forgot I gave it to You.
And so, every time You said, "No,"
I told myself that it meant
"Hang on, just a few more years,"
Or "Just wait, the next one will work out..."
Because of course, You'll make
My dreams come true
I know You're not some cosmic kill-joy
But You're not a genie either
And it's time to face facts
Start listening
And realize maybe You have other plans for me.
I'm sorry it's taken so long
I'll shut up now
And quit trying to put words into Your mouth.
